Major

Students need 32 credits in courses of which 20 must be taken in the Spanish Department at Grinnell. Spanish 105, 106, 204 do not count toward the major. Students must take 343 The Art of Language and either 377 Modernization and Innovation in Contemporary Spanish America or 383 The Spanish American Colonial World; and either 385 Cervantes and His World or 386 Studies in Medieval and Golden Age Literature.

Upon declaration of a major, students should indicate their preference for an advisor along with an alternative. After declaring a major, students should meet with their advisor to begin planning their academic program. Early planning is especially important to consider questions of balance, off-campus study, internships, and interdisciplinary concentrations.
