Our process is designed to help the College understand your strengths, interests, and individuality, while giving you a chance to delve into why Grinnell provides what many consider to be the best liberal arts education in America.
Application Deadlines
- Early Decision I: November 15
- Early Decision II: January 2
- Regular Decision: January 2
We encourage students to submit the application requirements early. The Office of Admission will be closed December 24, 2008 - January 1, 2009.
Application Requirements
- The Common Application Supplement: This is a short form specific to Grinnell College available at the Common Application website.
- The Common Application: Grinnell College uses the Common Application exclusively. We strongly encourage electronic submission of the Common Application and we will waive the application fee for students who apply online. Please visit www.commonapp.org to register and create your personal account.
- Common Application Personal Essay
- Teacher Evaluations (2): Grinnell requires two letters of recommendation from teachers of your choice in core academic subjects. The Common Application Teacher Recommendation forms are preferred.
- Recommendation of your secondary school counselor: Grinnell requires one letter of general recommendation from your secondary school counselor. The Secondary School Report is required and should accompany the Secondary School Transcript.
- High School Transcript: An official copy of your transcript with an original (not photocopied) stamp, signature, or seal is required.
- SAT or ACT Score Report: Grinnell has no minimum SAT or ACT score requirements. For more information on the SAT and test scheduling, visit www.collegeboard.com. For information on the ACT and test scheduling, visit www.act.org.
- Interview: An interview is an optional but encouraged part of the admission process. Please note that interviews are evaluative. Home-schooled and Early Admission (not Early Decision) students are required to complete an interview to be considered for admission.
