November 1 to December 31, 2008 Challenge
A challenge was recently issued to Grinnellians to make gifts.
The College's endowment, which is down with the current market turmoil, anchors the future and long-term educational opportunities at Grinnell. Annual Pioneer Fund gifts ensure we meet the short-term needs at the College. Annual gifts:
stand as a powerful and reliable hedge against market volatility;
mitigate investment gyrations that might otherwise undermine the high quality of current academic and co-curricular programs;
stabilize students by helping to relieve financial aid pressure on families; and
ensure that the opportunities and aspirations offered by a Grinnell education are not diminished by indiscriminate interim fluctuations in the endowment.
If each alumnus, parent, and friend gives the same amount as last time, annual gifts could replace $150 million of endowment value and participation would skyrocket.
With each unrestricted gift received between November 1 and December 31, we promise to reduce Pioneer Fund spending by $3. Early giving means less mail for you and a commitment by our office to return the corresponding funds to the College.
Thank you for joining me in making a gift in support of Grinnell. I made sure I made my commitment this fall. Thank you for doing as much as you are able so Grinnell will remain strong.
