In HS, was named most valuable runner in cross country twice while also earning all-league honors twice and earning a spot on the district team. He was a state qualifier as a senior, placing 36th of 288 runners. In track he was all-league and a member of the district team. David was an all-state runner in both track and cross country in high school and was part of the York HS CC team that were the 2005 National HS Champions.
