About the Venue
The Grinnell College softball team plays on one of the premier fields in the Midwest."We researched a number of outstanding playing venues and incorporated their best features in our new field--plus a few other things that we wanted," said Coach Sonnichsen.
Highlights of the new complex include a subterranean drainage system in the infield and outfield, which helps keep the field surface playable following wet weather, a dirt warning track down each sideline and around the entire outfield, black vinyl fencing, large, heated dugouts, telephone at field level, two equipment storage rooms, home and visitor bull pens, a double tunnel, artificial turf-surfaced batting cage, a heated press box, and permanent bleacher seating for two hundred. Although not part of the current construction, field lighting is also part of the long-term plan.
"We positioned the field so that no player would be looking into the sun at any time during the game," added Sonnichsen. "We are excited about this great facility and anxious to host an outstanding schedule of games each season."
