Grinnell College’s Olivia Wilks ’12 (left) and Michelle Briggs ’13 (right) have been named to the All-Midwest Conference Volleyball Team for the 2011 campaign.

The Grinnell College volleyball team lost a hard-fought four-set decision to St. Norbert College in the opening round of the Midwest Conference Tournament Friday night in De Pere, Wis.

The top-seeded hosts won by scores of 25-12, 24-26, 25-19 and 25-14 to move to 25-7 and advance to the title match at 1 p.m. Saturday against Lake Forest College.

Grinnell, the fourth seed, finished at 9-17.

The Grinnell College volleyball team is set to participate in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the second time in three years.

Grinnell is the fourth seed in the four-team field, having gone 6-3 in league play, and will play top-seed and host St. Norbert College at 7 p.m. Friday. St. Norbert was 9-0 in the MWC.

Coe College, the Iowa Conference’s top volleyball team, defeated Grinnell College in three sets Friday night at Cedar Rapids.

The Kohawks won by scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-10. Grinnell fell to 9-16.

The Grinnell College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches Saturday at Lake Forest College, falling in four sets to the hosts in Midwest Conference action and then in five sets to Trinity International University.

Lake Forest beat the Pioneers by scores of 25-22, 24-26, 25-13 and 25-16.
