6/8/08 - The move from Office 2003/2004 to Office 2007/2008 is, as promised, scheduled to occur this summer, so that all affected machines are upgraded in time for the start of the Fall semester. Progress is being made on several fronts: Several offices have volunteered to test their processes using the new Office system. We are currently installing those test stations across campus. Additionally, the Faculty Support offices have already been upgraded. Some Office 2007 training is already underway, and more sessions will be offered as the deployment date approaches. Watch for additional training news within the next week. The ITS Networking Team has been testing the upgrade to the Exchange server. Testing is underway by several ITS staffers have had their mail moved over to the new server for a more vigorous test. This upgrade will provide greater functionality when paired with Outlook 2007, in addition to a wider range of functions when using Outlook Web Access. The Blue and Green Support Teams are looking into deployment strategies, checking on the best way to deliver the upgrade to all campus desktops, with minimal disruption to staff productivity. In other upgrade news, ITS has decided to delay any implementation of Windows Vista operating systems until such time that more testing can be done, and all enterprise applications are deemed certified.
