Re: Staffing Requests
In order to prepare next year's academic budget, we need to have your request for part-time faculty, sabbatical replacements, etc. needed in your department for 2009-2010 by September 19, 2008. If the sabbatical and/or other leave plans of faculty in your department are uncertain, you should outline possible staffing needs depending on the range of those plans. Although the normal expectation is that faculty members on one-semester research leaves are not replaced, you should include requests and rationales for course coverage you consider essential. If a member of your department were to receive a Harris Leave, your department would be eligible for a replacement automatically as part of the award, so you do not need to cover such a possibility in your request. Please note it is very difficult to fund staffing requests once the academic budget for next year is established.
Requests for additional non-faculty positions should be submitted along with annual non-salary budget requests. A separate announcement will be issued for budget requests, and they will be due late in October.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
