The Mental Health Services Review Committee convened in the fall of 2007
in order to conduct a thorough assessment of the College's mental health
services for students.
Final recommendations (PDF file) were delivered to the
Vice President for Student Affairs in October 2008.
The committee began with an educational process, sharing available
information and uncovering important new information. The committee has
reviewed of the components of a successful counseling center - therapy,
intake, psychiatric care, emergency; location/facilities; staffing, and has
consulted with experts in the field of college mental health services.
Additionally, the Mental Health Services Review Committee contracted
external reviewers who spent
several days on campus in April of 2008.
Many members of the college community took part in the Community Wide
Discussion hosted by the Review Committee on April 22, 2008.
An
informational handout (PDF file) was distributed at that meeting in
which more than 50 students, staff, and PCMHC therapists participated.
The committee continues to encourage students, faculty, and staff to
contact committee chair
Joyce Stern with ideas or suggestions relating to mental wellness on
campus.
