Campus Safety Services

Lost and Found

If you have lost personal property on-campus, please contact Campus Safety at 641-269-4600 or come directly to our office located at Mears Cottage, 1213 6th Avenue. When found items are turned into Campus Safety, they are cataloged and the owner is contacted if they can be identified and located.  If not, the found items are stored safely for approximately 90-days.

If your personal property was not turned in to Campus Safety, it may be necessary to contact other campus departments that you regularly frequent.  Most found property is eventually delivered to Campus Safety; however, some buildings on campus have their own procedures for handling such items.

Safety Escorts

The Grinnell College Escort Service (Safe Rides) will escort you anywhere within the Campus Safety patrol area or to authorized locations within the city of Grinnell.  Staff members with the Department of Campus Safety will walk or drive you to and from your destination. The escorts carry two-way radios providing direct communication with the Communication Center.

Call the Grinnell College Department of Campus Safety at extension 4600 (on-campus) or at 641-269-4600 (off-campus) to request a safety escort.

Unlocks

Administrative Unlocks

The Department of Campus Safety will provide access to locked administrative spaces, upon authorized request, from the requesting party. The party must be able to provide a verifiable purpose for access. The requesting party should be prepared to meet the responding officer at the space.

Residential Unlocks

The Department of Campus Safety will provide access to residential space, upon authorized request, from a student to their assigned residence hall room. Access will not be granted to anyone not assigned to the room, even if a request is made by the assigned resident.

The student should be prepared to present their student ID to the responding officer in order to verify residency prior to completing the unlock.  The requesting student may be charged a fee of $10.00 for a residential unlock.  This fee is for providing entry/access to the room, not for unlocking the door.

Vehicle Assistance

Jump Starts

The Department of Campus Safety provides a courtesy jump start service for vehicles parked on campus property.  Jump starts may not be available due to inclement weather or during an on-campus emergency. The requesting party will be responsible for all associated fees charged by the local service provider.

We are unable to provide jump starts to vehicles parked off-campus. A local service provider can be called on your behalf. The requesting party will be responsible for all associated fees charged by the local service provider.
