The Service Learning and Civic Engagement Program can assist you in connecting with local organizations whether you are:
- a student looking to connect to the community in a meaningful way,
- a faculty member wanting to add a service component to one of your courses,
- or staff member interested in a new project.
Susan Sanning, assistant director of service learning and engagement, is happy to talk with you and help you explore opportunities that match your individual interests, needs, and strengths. If you find an opportunity that suits your needs, the program offers transportation for those wishing to carpool to their various work sites.
In addition, if you are interested in partnering or volunteering with a group of students who share your interests and passions, you are encouraged to create a profile on OrgSync (which can be accessed through PioneerWeb) and explore what partner organizations and student service groups are currently doing.
Following is a categorized list of some of the organizations where you may find Grinnell College students volunteering, working through the Compensated Co-Curricular Service-Learning Program, or participating in curricular civic engagement projects. This is not an exhaustive list! Our faculty and students’ interests are incredibly diverse, and their service commitments are spread across a wide array of community partners.
Unless otherwise noted the organizations operate in Grinnell. All other organizations are within a one hour drive of campus. Carpool transportation is available by request on a first come, first served basis.
