The Forum computer training room provides access to Windows PC and Macintosh computers in a traditional computer classroom setting. All of the College's common business and office applications are available on these computers, as are many special purpose applications. Contact ITS or your curricular technology specialist if you have questions about the resources in the training room.
The training room is available for use by Grinnell College faculty and staff to provide instruction which benefits from the use of a computer-equipped classroom.
The Forum computer training room is intended for workshops, short-term classes, or ad hoc offerings. Although it may be used by faculty for individual class sessions, the training room is not intended for use as a classroom for an entire course.
Some computer training requires extended hours of access across multiple days. For example, IT Services occasionally coordinates regional Datatel training opportunities that require day-long use of a computer training facility for several consecutive days. Such offerings are appropriate uses of the Forum computer training room.
The training room is available Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You cannot schedule activities in the training room when the helpdesk is closed without the prior approval of IT Services.
The training room is located near the IT Services Helpdesk. The availability for the training room may be altered to reflect security needs in the ITS Helpdesk space.
ITS staff will unlock the training room five minutes before the scheduled reservation start time or 8 a.m., whichever is later and will lock the training room door five minutes after the scheduled reservation end time or 5 p.m., whichever is earlier.
