Purpose: Guest housing and meeting space
Grinnell House serves as a bed-and-breakfast for guests of Grinnell College. In addition to guest rooms, it includes a dining room, sun porch, and meeting rooms.
A previous Italianate building at the site served as the president’s home from 1887 to 1917, when it was razed and replaced by the current Georgian building. The new building served as the president’s home from 1917 to 1961.
Fun Fact
Past guests include U.S. Presidents Harry Truman and Dwight Eisenhower, as well as novelists in various fields, poets, artists, novelists, scientists, and political leaders and high officials of the United States and many other countries.
