Gates Hall

Name: George Augustus Gates Hall
Nickname: Gates
Address: 1402 Park St.
Purpose: Residence hall, 40 students

Named for Grinnell’s second president, Gates Hall is connected to the other five original men’s halls by an open cloister or loggia, with a long line of 38 arches spanning the east side of the buildings. The twin towers of Gates and Rawson Halls are an iconic feature of North Campus. The tower gate, resembling that of Hampton Court Palace, aligns directly to the west of a parallel gate at Rose Hall, forming the “equinox pathway” through which you can view the vernal equinox sunrise.
