Communicating in Spanish lies at the heart of our program that offers a balanced approach to the geographical regions of the Hispanic world. All classes are conducted in Spanish as students and instructors discuss Hispanic culture in its rich diversity, from the films of Pedro Almódovar to the poetry of Sor Juana. On campus, students attend the weekly Spanish Table to share a meal and speak Spanish with classmates, instructors, and Hispanic students. Living in the Spanish House increases the opportunities for enhancing communication skills.
Students meet and speak with Hispanic visitors representing the arts, journalism, film, and Latino culture. State-of-the-art technology facilities ensure that authentic audio and video materials are always available. The study of Hispanic societies and cultures continues in our off-campus programs in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Spain. Students combine their knowledge of Spanish with other academic interests, whether it be ethnographic fieldwork in Costa Rica, economic study in Buenos Aires, or Moorish architecture in Seville.
