9/28 Finding the Right Study Space For You

Discuss strategies for finding the right study space for you.  Take an inventory to evaluate your current study locations, discuss the impact of the environment on study effectiveness, and hear from other students about their favorite study spaces on campus.  Sponsored by Academic Advising.  Location: ISO Suite, JRC.  Time: 8:30 p.m.

Uncomfortable speaking in class? Not sure what to say? Come learn some tips on how to be prepared and get those class discussion points. We’ll work to boost your confidence to participate in class by giving you strategies and ways to prepare.  Co-facilitated by Academic Advising and Professor Henry Rietz.  Location:  JRC 227.  Time:  10:00 a.m.

10/11 A Major Decision:  Choosing a Major

Panel discussion with faculty and staff (who are also alumni) on how to choose a major.  If you are wondering: What is the right major? How to decide on a major? Is a double major for me? What is an independent major? How do I choose a faculty adviser? … then this event is for you!  Co-sponsored by Academic Advising and Career Development.  Location:  JRC 101.  

10/27 Tips for Test Taking

Discuss different strategies for test taking.  Discover some new study styles for specific types of tests and learn ways you can become a better test taker.  Also, if you experience worry or fear caused by having to take exams, this workshop is for you.  Come and learn how to manage or even prevent test anxiety.  Co-sponsored by Academic Advising and Student Health and Counseling Services.  Location:  JRC 227.  Time:  10:00 a.m.

11/30 Preparing for Finals

Final Exam week at Grinnell can be a difficult combination of exams and long papers due simultaneously.  Find out from upper-class students what to expect from a finals’ week at Grinnell.  Hear strategies for studying for tests, for staying organized and efficient with your time, and for managing your week (and the week before!). This workshop is part of Self Care Week.   Sponsored by Academic Advising.  Location:  JRC 209.
