BIORHYTHMS

February 2010. Volume 4, Issue 4.

Exciting Information!

Good news biology majors! We are excited to be able to tell you that both Professor Whitworth and Professor Ruthig are going to be staying next year!! So if you see them in the hall of Noyce…..say hi or give them a hug!

Special Note to 2nd Years:

The scary time is coming upon you where you have to commit to a major (But we know you aren’t scared because biology is a really cool major!!!). REMINDER: DO IT BY APRIL 7th, want to register for classes (kinda important). Some important notes:

Due to sabbatical leaves next year and current advising loads, you should discuss your plans soon with one of the following biology professors who are accepting new advisees:

  • Jackie Brown
  • Ben DeRidder
  • Vince Eckhart
  • Leslie Gregg-Jolly
  • Kathy Jacobson
  • Peter Jacobson
  • Diane Robertson

We know it is scary to ask a professor to be your advisor….but it is not as scary as it seems. THEY WANT YOU TOO.

Upcoming Events

Friday Seminar

This week the Friday Seminar will brought to us by Steve Rodernel from Iowa State University. The title of his talk is Molecular Biology: Nuclear-Chloroplast Interactions.

Special Note: Do you like Science and FREE food from La Cabana or Chuong Garden?? Sign up for Lunch with Dr. Rodernel (about 1-2:15ish). It is a casual and informal atmosphere (and isn’t awkward we swear!!). Signup sheet is in the bio commons or email [biosepc].

Bio Study Break

Coming soon!! The Bio SEPC is going to throw a study break. This will be a great chance for you to meet your SEPC member (we are fun) and ask any questions you have about the department, elections, the major, etc. This might be especially helpful for 2nd years who are declaring their major soon (scary …we know). We are going to be watching Life (aka the new planet earth!!!). Also, there will be lots of animal themed food!! See you there!

  • When: March 10
  • Where: Noyce...details will be announced soon
  • Why: Because every Grinnellian needs a break…..

Elections!!

Want to run for BIO SEPC? Email your statement of intent to the [biosepc] account AND post on the biology SEPC bio commons board. Deadline March 12 at MIDNIGHT!! This is open to any declared 2nd year bio major (SO DECLARE IF YOU WANT TO RUN).

Biology T-Shirt Ideas!

Do you have any ideas for t-shirts?? Send us your ideas/designs/concepts to the sepc email account.
