About Paul Hutchison

Paul Hutchison, Assistant Professor of Education, has a B.A. in physics from Cornell College, an M.S. in physics from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, and a Ph.D. in science education from the University of Maryland. His teaching experience before coming to Grinnell includes a good bit of introductory college physics, courses in science teaching methods, and some high school math. Paul is responsible for mentoring and teaching students seeking science and/or math teaching certifications. In addition to teaching our science and math education courses he teaches the introductory course (EDU 101), educational psychology (EDU 221), and, on occasion, introductory physics (PHY 131). Paul's research focuses on student cognition in inquiry-oriented science learning environments. He also likes to think about what such research implies for how we teach and how we train future teachers.
