Claire earned her Master's degree in French language and literature from Washington University in 1992 and completed the PhD qualifying exams. She has taught at Grinnell since 1998, mostly in the Writing Lab but also in the French Department and in the Summer Institute/Honors Scholars program. She currently teaches the introductory sequence in French, directs the Alternate Language Study Option program, and is developing a community-based peer teaching program in foreign languages.
