Susan Strauber Susan Strauber, Associate Professor of Art History, has a B. A., M. A. and Ph.D. (1980) in art history from Brown University. Her research focuses on nineteenth century painting, from Eugène Delacroix to Édouard Manet and the origins of modernity. In addition to translating and revising Loys Delteil's The Graphic Art of Eugène Delacroix (a catalogue raisonné of Delacroix's prints) she has written articles about the problematic authentic and false estate stamps on Delacroix drawings and the construction of his artistic identity and has acted as a professional consultant on Delacroix. Her most recent scholarship includes publications on images of disease and disability in Manet's oeuvre, and on Manet's early portraiture in relation to the invention of the modernist tableau. Professor Strauber currently teaches courses on romanticism and realism, impressionism and post-impressionism, the history of women artists, and the Pre-Raphaelites (a course which grew out of GIL). She has taught twice before on Grinnell-in-London and is enthusiastic about having the opportunity to teach in London again.
