Grinnell College does not not find housing for students, does not endorse any particular housing arrangement, and holds students responsible for securing their own housing. The College makes no representations or warranties and accepts no responsibility regarding the suitability and safety of any housing arrangement entered into by a student.
The majority of students who attend the GIL program arrange their housing before arriving in London. Arranged housing options utilized in the past include Euracom Flats and the Nido King's Cross Residence Hall. Some students also choose to find their own housing, by using their ingenuity, talking with previous GIL students, and letting their fingers do the typing through various search engines. Further information on the 'find your own flat' option is available in the GIL Student Handobook.
Euracom Flats
are all well-appointed flats located in Zone 1, within easy reach of the GIL site. The GIL site is located at 99 Great Russell Street in Bloomsbury (central London- great location!). For photos and full descriptions of the large number of flats available, visit the Euracom website. The flats have a kitchen, living room/dining room, bathroom, and bedroom. Larger flats with more than one bedroom have a second bathroom. All of the flats are provided with cutlery, crockery and a full range of utensils. Bed linen (and a spare set) are also provided together with towels. All the flats have television, and most now have either wireless or broadband internet access. Laundry facilities are either within the flat or the building.
Nido King's Cross Residence Hall
This new, purpose-built student residence, within walking distance of the teaching site, opened in September 2007. With capacity for 950 students, this offers shared-room accommodation. Each room has its own bathroom facilities, and access to shared kitchens. Dishes and cookware are available for resident use, along with individual lockable refrigerators, freezers and storage cupboards. Linens are also supplied. For full details see the website: www.nidolondon.com. Additional amenities include wireless internet coverage, on-site fitness center, café, laundry facilities, bicycle parking, group activities, and Resident Assistants to help in case of emergencies.
Find Your Own Flat
is an option some students choose in order to have more control over both location and cost. Information about how to find a flat is availabe in the GIL Student Handbook. Additionally, a guide to flat hunting is available to help you with this challenge (see attachment below).
