I worked at Firepower: The Royal Artillery Museum. Not being too big of military nut, I initially thought of the prospect of working at a war museum a bit daunting, but I've found the experience to be very academic and pretty challenging. My main task for the internship was designing an exhibition called "Real People, Real Stories" which the museum will install in 2009. I worked with two giant packets of primary documents to construct two narratives that visitors would follow as they went through the galleries. I was given a lot of creative license with the work, and my boss was really supportive but also very generous in the amount of agency I had over the project. I also worked in the museum's offsite storage facility, working directly with some of the museum's collection. There I did a lot of work with preservation and conservations. It was a really great experience and there was plenty to do the whole six weeks.
