London is a world city without parallel. With deep cultural, political, and economic connections to many parts of the world, London is one of the most profoundly diverse and exciting cities on the globe. London is also the historic capital of Britain with a vibrant past extending beyond the Roman occupation to the ancient Celts. And London has the cultural resources to match its historic and global roles: music (of all sorts), art, museums, theater, architecture, and all of the social, cultural, and culinary diversity that a world-class city can offer.
The Grinnell-in-London program offers courses covering a wide array of topics and makes use of the richness of London by including many and multiple field trips within London and beyond. Courses are taught by both local adjunct faculty and faculty from the Grinnell College campus. Additionally, Grinnell College has a cooperative arrangement with the Danenberg Oberlin-in-London program that allows students to cross-enroll in the courses offered on each program. Internships are also available. Students attending Grinnell-in-London have pursued internships in the Parliament, with museums, theaters, hospitals, law offices (solicitors), research firms, NGOs, and a television news agency, among others.
Grinnell-in-London provides an extraordinary semester for students interested in living in London, attending the theatre at least weekly, and pursuing their academics through both classroom learning and experiential field trips, with the option of an internship as well.
