I am working for an open-access publishing company called BioMed Central (BMC). Science articles are made freely accessible through publication with BMC and after going through a peer-review publishing process. I work mainly with the editorial staff acting as a correspondent to the authors and peer-reviewers on behalf of the editors. I have also had the opportunity to work with one of the heads of publishing, and assist in launching a new journal for the Chemistry Central series. This has involved researching possible journal topics, and interviewing editors and top researchers in those fields. This internship has given me a new perspective on the publishing process of science journals, and has also given me the unique experience of studying what research topics are most prevalent today. - Carly Kruse '10, GIL 2008 Intern
