Every student on the GIW program will participate in a 10 week internship. The internship is Monday- Thursday, approximately 32 hours a week. The internship will be arranged by the Washington Internship Institute (WII) which has more than 10 years of experience in placing students in successful internships throughout Washington DC. Students will work with an internship coordinator to find the best internship to fit their interests and abilities. Internships are appropriate for all majors/concentrations and all interests. An internship can be anything from display presentation in the Smithsonian to working for the Children's Defense Fund to helping a politician campaign. The possibilities for internships are endless.
A selection of the internships that previous GIW students have had are listed below. For a complete list of all internships done in DC by Grinnell College students, please search the Career Development Office database. Please note that you are in no way limited to these, nor are you assured of obtaining one of these. Internship sites are constantly being assessed and added (or deleted) from the list of viable sites. The internship possibilities in Washington DC are great!
