Deborah Siegel, Author of "Sisterhood, Interrupted: From Radical Women to Grrls Gone Wild,"
to Speak on Third Wave Feminism and Feminist Generations

Dr. Deborah Siegel, will give a talk on U.S. feminism in the 2000's and the
unfinished business of feminism across generations.
In addition to Sisterhood, Interrupted, Siegel is also the co-editor of literary anthology
Only Child: Writers on the Singular Joys oand Soliary Sorrows of Growning Up Solo,
and co-founder of the webjournal the Scholar & Feminist Online. Her writing has
appeared in venues including The Washington Post, The Guardian, The Huffington
Post, The American Prospect, More, Psychology Today, The Progressive, The
Mothers Movement Online, and on her blog, Girl with Pen.
Screening of "I was a Teenage Feminist" with Therese Shechter

Award-winning independent filmmaker Therese Shechter will introduce a screening of her 2005 documentary "I Was a Teenage Feminist," a film which asks why young progressive women don't want to call themselves feminists. The film recently won Best Film at the Jewish Women's Film Festival (NCJW New York section) and was given a Special Mention at the Karachi Film Festival in Pakistan. Following the screening, Shechter will show clips from her work-in-progress, "American Virgin," a documentary about virginity, sex education, and female sexuality. After the screening, Shechter will take questions about her films and independent filmmaking and financing. Sponsored by the Gender and Women's Studies Concentration.
