On-Campus Resources

Student Groups and Library Resources related to Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies can be helpful for students interested in research, activism, or otherwise engaging with the GWSS curriculum.

Feminist Action Coalition [fac] - The Feminist Action Coalition (FAC) is Grinnell's student-run feminist organization. We are devoted to advocating on behalf of Grinnell's women, fighting oppression in all its forms, and having awesome feminist fun. In addition to weekly discussions about feminist issues, FAC organizes a number of popular events on campus, including Love Your Body Week, and Take Back the Night Week.

Stonewall Resource Center [srcenter] - The Stonewall Resource Center exists as a confidential safe space to serve the campus' Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning community and their Allies. Our primary focus is to provide resources and information about LGBT and Queer issues and to facilitate educational programming and activities on campus. The Stonewall Resource Center is also a meeting space and resource for numerous LGBT and Queer related student organizations on campus.

Stonewall Resource Center Library [srclibrary] - The Stonewall Resource Center Library contains a collection of hundreds of books, films, and TV series, in addition to subscriptions to many LGBT and Queer magazines and publications. The SRC Library is both an academic and personal resource for all students on campus, and materials can be checked out whenever an SRC monitor is present.

Grinnell Advocates [advocates] - Grinnell Advocates is a staff supervised, student organization that aims to create greater awareness about issues surrounding sexual assault and dating violence on campus. This group provides sensitive, educational programming about issues related to dating violence, sexual harassment, and sexual assault. The Advocates also act as an immediate resource for victims through the Domestic Violence Alternatives Student Assult Center (DVA/SAC) hotline.

GWSS Library Database Subject Guide - The GWSS Subject Guide from Grinnell College Libraries offers a list of online academic resources ideal for research in Gender, Women's, and Sexuality Studies.

Off-Campus Resources

Off-campus organizations, websites, and blogs can offer GWSS students opportunities for outside research, activism, or other ways to engage with the GWSS curriculum outside of the Grinnell campus.

Central Iowa Family Planning (641)236-7787- Central Iowa Family Planning (CIFP) is a Title X family planning clinic providing affordable, comprehensive, confidential family planning services, education and reproductive health care to clients in Central Iowa....Marshalltown, Tama and Grinnell. All services are private and confidential.

Iowa Women's Archive - The Iowa Women's Archives holds more than 1100 manuscript collections that chronicle the lives and work of Iowa women, their families, and their communities. These personal papers and organizational records date from the nineteenth century to the present. Together with oral histories, they document the activities of Iowa women throughout the state and beyond its borders. The Iowa Women's Archives is open to the public.

Webgrrls International - Webgrrls International is an online and offline networking organization of professional business women focused on propelling their careers and businesses forward. It focuses on networking and connecting with others, leveraging and learning about technology, learning new skills and finding jobs, finding mentors and interns, and gaining access to support and information.

The Feminist Majority Foundation - The Feminist Majority Foundation (FMF), which was founded in 1987, is a cutting edge organization dedicated to women's equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, FMF utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically. This organization believes that feminists - both women and men, girls and boys - are the majority, but this majority must be empowered.

Lambda Foundation - Lambda Foundation seeks to advance human rights education and research through university and other awards to graduate and undergraduate students successfully doing worthy and relevant studies iin gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex (GLBTI) issues in many different fields.

National Organization for Women - Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women. NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society.

The Kinsey Institute - The Kinsey Institute at Indiana University works towards advancing sexual health and knowledge worldwide. For over 60 years, the institute has been a trusted source for investigating and informing the world about critical issues in sex, gender and reproduction.

National Gay & Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute -  The National Gay & Lesbian Task Force Policy Institute provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle for complete equality and to counter political opposition.

New York Public Library Gay & Lesbian Studies Research Guide - A Research Guide created by the New York Public Library to aid in research materials relevant to Gay & Lesbian Studies, LGBT History, AIDS, and other relevant academic topics.
