Dr. Julie McGinnis Sturm, principal cellist of the Des Moines Symphony is also a member of the string faculty at Grinnell College in Iowa. Throughout her career, she has been an active recitalist and chamber musician, performing extensively in the United States, Germany, Israel, Austria, Mexico, South Korea and Albania. Dr. Sturm has been a recipient of a Fulbright Grant for research in Germany, and spent four years as an active artist-teacher in Munich. She has been a faculty member of the Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts in the Boston area, the New England Conservatory of Music pre-college division, and Assistant Professor of cello and music theory at Drake University. Dr. Sturm holds a Bachelor's degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, a Master's degree from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona. Her principal teachers were David Geber, Bonnie Hampton, and the late Gabor Rejto.
