Zachariah Zubow is a composer whose work has been featured on conferences and festivals throughout the United States, Italy, England and Korea. Most recently his string quartet, Sundown, was chosen to be included in the Society of Composers, Inc. (SCI) Journal of Music Scores that will be released in the spring of 2013. Sundown was also the first prize recipient of the 2011 SCI/ASCAP Region V (West) Student Commission Award as well as the winner of the 2012 College Music Society's (CMS) Mid-Atlantic Region Best Student Composition Contest. Other awards for his works include the Five College New Music Festival Student Composition Competition (2011), the CMS South Central Region Best Student Competition (2012) and the CMS Great Plains Region Chapel White Memorial Award (2012). Upcoming performances of Zubow's works will be featured at Electronic Music Midwest, 'Prospectives 2012' International Digital Arts Conference, the Iowa Composers Forum annual conference and the premier of his most recent work, Sky Crane, written for the University of Iowa Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Daniel Moore.
Zubow finished his Ph.D. in composition from the University of Iowa (2012) and is a lecturer in music theory at Grinnell College.
