Peace Studies Program

The mission of the Peace Studies Program is to promote understanding of the causes of conflict and creative strategies for its peaceful resolution in our community, our nation, and our world.
Outbreaks of violence, injustice, and intractable conflict are among the most pressing problems we face today. How can we find creative peacebuilding strategies to address them ? The Peace Studies Program seeks to educate students through courses, a biennial academic student peace studies conference, speakers, internships, conflict resolution workshops, and opportunities to interact with scholars and peacebuilders actively working in the field.
"Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of creative alternatives for responding to conflict--alternatives to passive or aggressive responses, alternatives to violence." Dorothy Thompson (1893-1961), journalist and human rights activist
