Research Interests

My main research interests focus on how individuals cope with chronic physical illnesses. I am particularly interested in understanding the role of interpersonal relationships in coping with illness and how perceptions of illness may influence both physical and psychological functioning. I have explored these issues among women with lupus and their families. I am also interested in the role of gender on health, particularly body image and sexuality among women with illness, and health disparities. As a clinical psychologist and health psychologist, I am interested in using this knowledge in the development of interventions to assist individuals and families coping with chronic physical illness.
