Russian, Central, and Eastern European Studies (RCEES) is an interdisciplinary concentration focusing on the history and culture of Russia, the other republics of the former Soviet Union, and the nations of Eastern and Central Europe (with a particular emphasis on Poland and the Czech Republic.) Like all concentrations at Grinnell College, RCEES is an organized program of study, requiring coursework in several different fields (such as literature, history, economics, and political science) and culminating in an independent research project; in all, it requires 24 or 26 credits. RCEES students can choose among three different specializations, or tracks: Russian literature and culture, Russian history and culture, or the history and culture of Eastern Europe. In conjunction with related departments like Russian and history, RCEES sponsors a variety of events throughout the academic year. For more information on the concentration, contact its current chair, Professor Danielle Lussier.
