KELLY AUSTIN MARTYSHEV (Russian). ...
ETAINE NORRIS (Russian). A Russian Study Award enabled Etaine to study on the ACTR Fall 1997 Semester in St. Petersburg. Etaine then began graduate work in physical therapy at Marymount Univeristy, and she hopes that her health-care and Russian-language skills will make it possible for her to play a role in the future well-being of Russia.
She made the very difficult decision to undergo a career path in physical therapy, and just hoped that one day my Russian background would come in handy! She finished grad school in Virginia in 2001 and moved to Corpus Christi, TX for the next 3 years. She says, she has to admit that there, Spanish was a much hotter commodity! She just moved back to the Virginia area this past spring and is currently working in the sportstherapy setting, which she truly loves. About 3 months ago, she realized that if she didn't start speaking or even hearing Russian again soon, she was going to forget the language she had so thoroughly loved learning in college, and worked so hard at learning...so a very kind Russian lady that her mom works with offered to meet with me every Saturday for about an hour so we could just speak Russian together. It has been such a highlight to Etaine's weeks, and she is a wonderful teacher as well. So Etaine just wants Lena to know, all her hard work was not for naught!
Etaine says: "I miss everybody there, and I was so saddened to hear about Dr. Mohan, as his class on Tolstoy was the greatest class I ever took anywhere, and he was such a magnificent professor and human being."
