Raquel Greene did her undergraduate work at the University of Virginia and received the Ph. D. at the Ohio State University in 1999. Her curent research activity, in addition to work on Russian poet Aleksander Pushkin's African heritage and its impact on his art, includes the compilation of an anthology, Africa Through Russian Eyes: Readings on the History of Russian-African Intellectual, Cultural, and Literary Contact from the 17th Century to the Present. Her research takes her to Moscow on a regular basis, most recently in Summer 2003.
Raquel joined the department in 1998 in the capacity of a CSMP scholar.
Raquel teaches all levels of the Russian language curriculum, and also teaches a course based on her research,
"The Theme of the African
in Russian Literature and Culture." She has also taught linguistics, and in Spring 2007 will teach a course on
Aleksandr Pushkin. Raquel also serves as campus program advisor for the ACM Russian Studies Program in Krasnodar.
