Sociology major Lizeth Guiterrez '11 led this mural project in the Grinnell community with Anastasia Sample ’10 when Lizeth was president of the student group called Student Organization of Latinas and Latinos (SOL).

The purpose of the mural in the town of Grinnell was to create a visual representation of the diversity of many of Grinnell College’s students, while also establishing a connection between these students and the surrounding Grinnell community. The mural, for Lizeth, represented a constant reminder for the college’s growing minority population that times are changing and there is no longer a need to cancel one’s ethnic pride on campus or in the town.
