The Spanish Department is organizing a Brown Bag Lunch, February 27 from 12:00-1:00 at the Cultural Education Center (AV Center) where students will share their internship experiences in which they used their Spanish skills in local and global communities.

Pelicula situada en el Norte de Espana, en la epoca de resistencia contra los fascistas, tras la guerra Civil (1941). Trata de la sociedad de la epoca, del silencio, del miedo, del amor y de la esperanza. Actuan Juan Diego Botto (actor hispano-argentino, guapiiisimo!!!) y Lucia Jimenez. El director es buenisimo. La pelicula recibio un Premio Goya (Oscars en Espana) al mejor actor revelacion.

Adaptacion de la novela de Jose Angel Manas (autor de bestsellers en Espana), sobre la vida de los jovenes en Espana y los problemas sociales. La pelicula fue nominada a 3 premios Goya (Oscars en Espana) por mejor director, actor (Tristan Ulloa, actor muy bueno!!!) y guion adaptado.

OS INVITO A TODOS/AS SI QUEREIS Y PODEIS VERLAS CONMIGO. PUEDE SER UN STUDY BREAK SIN DEJAR DE PRACTICAR VUESTRO ESPANOL ANTES DE FINALS!!!

SPANISH HOUSE IS RECRUITING FOR 2007-2008

If you are interested in the Spanish language and culture and want to experience as complete of an immersion environment as this campus can provide, please consider being part of the Spanish House for next academic year.

The Spanish House is located at 1316 Park St (Brown House) and has 11 spaces available. We are now recruiting for next year.

You will enjoy the company of the Spanish Language Assistant and other students while sharing meals, conversations, coffee and study breaks, films, songs, and Latin dance.
ALL students of Spanish and students who are Spanish native speakers are welcome. However, if there are more candidates than spaces available, preference to live in the house will be given to students who:

--are Spanish majors
--will be taking Spanish classes when living in the house
--will be studying abroad, in a Hispanic country, after living in the house
--are coming back from off-campus study in a Hispanic country
--are native speakers
--participate regularly in the activities offered by the Spanish Department and Spanish House.

TRAS EL ÉXITO DE HACE DOS SEMANAS, ESTE VIERNES VEREMOS UNA NUEVA PELÍCULA EN LA CASA DE ESPAÑOL.

SE TRATA DE "TÉSIS", LA PRIMERA OBRA DEL DIRECTOR ALEJANDRO AMENÁBAR (EL MÁS IMPORTANTE EN ESPAÑA EN LA ACTUALIDAD, JUNTO CON ALMODÓVAR, DIRECTOR DE OBRAS COMO "THE OTHERS" -con Nikole Kidman-, O "THE SEA INSIDE", GANADORA DEL ÓSCAR A LA MEJOR PELÍCULA EXTRANJERA EL AÑO PASADO). SE TRATA ADEMÁS DE UNA DE LAS PELÍCULAS MÁS INFLUYENTES EN LA CULTURA POPULAR ESPAÑOLA DE LOS AÑOS 90 (ENTRE LAS 10 MÁS INFLUYENTES, SEGÚN LA CRÍTICA)

RESÚMEN

Ángela (Ana Torrent), estudiante de Ciencias de la Información, se dispone a realizar su tesis universitaria sobre la violencia audiovisual, cuando casualmente encuentra con una misteriosa cinta de vídeo donde se ha grabado la tortura y crimen real de una mujer. Desde ese momento, su vida corre peligro, ya que alguien más sabe que ella ha visto la cinta. La película se adentra en el peligroso mundo de las “snuff movies” , en un argumento muy propio de Amenábar, en que nada es lo que parece.

En fin, la película es un thriller en donde hay tensión hasta el final, y una historia única en el cine español para la época de su estreno. ¡Ah! Y para aquellas/os interesadas/os ¡actúa el guapísimo (-íiiisimo) Eduardo Noriega! ;)

¡RECORDAD! ESTE VIERNES 20 DE MAYO A LAS 7'30 DE LA TARDE.
