Kim Jones: Countries of the Tropics Group Project and Presentation

Day 1:
In class: Groups will present their proposed country, including why they chose it. The group members should explain why it is interesting to look at development in that country. Each member should explain the specific aspect of development in the country they will focus on.
To be handed in: A written statement of the proposal, with the above information should be turned in on this day. This statement will constitute the first draft of the Introduction section of their final paper. It should be 2-3 pages in length (double-spaced with a separate bibliography page). Find a title that captivates what the overall orientation of the combined project will be. Put the title and names of group members on a separate page. Each member of the group should have at least three references (with full citations in the bibliography) they will use to learn more about the subject of their part of the overall paper.

Day 2:
To be handed in and to group members: 4 page rough drafts with full bibliographies. Each student should bring in enough copies for their group members and me (double-sided, smaller font, use the whole page printing preferred).
In class: Groups will read over the group's papers and provide constructive criticism on the work of their group mates. While groups are giving feedback to their members on the first draft of the individual parts of the paper, I will be going around to the groups to assist you in deciding on a method of presentation (PowerPoint, role play, poster, designing a website, etc.).

Days 3 and 4:
To be handed in: Complete final draft of the paper on March 15. The paper should consist of a collective 5 pages (2-3 in Introduction and 2-3 in Conclusion), and five pages from each student on their particular area of concentration. We will get through as many presentations as possible the first day. Presentations should be 20-25 minutes in length for each group.
In class: Presentations

Grading:
First drafts will be graded and considered in the final evaluation. The collective five pages will be given a group grade worth 20% of the grade for this project. The group presentation will make up another 20% of the grade and will be based on the overall performance of the group as well as individual performance. The individual part of the paper will be worth the remaining 60% of the overall grade on this assignment.
