| Judy earned her BA in English and American Literature in 1971 and her MA in English Education in 1999. After a 5-year stint as a high school English teacher, she has been teaching at the Grinnell College Writing Lab since 1976, and has been director since 2000. In her spare time she reads, does crossword puzzles, and plays tennis. | |
 | Helyn earned her bachelor degree in English and Theatre in 1981 and studied Theatre at the graduate level at Villanova University and the University of Iowa. Prior to joining the Writing Lab in 2003, she spent 20 years working in support of academicians. During this time she edited manuscripts in fields including political science, economics, international relations, philosophy, and religious studies. She enjoys writing fiction, and is a passionate consumer of crossword puzzles and chocolate. |
Claire earned her Master's degree in French language and literature from Washington University in 1992 and completed the PhD qualifying exams. She has taught in the Writing Lab since 1998 and is certified to teach English as a Second Language. In addition to teaching in the Writing Lab, she has taught Introductory French and a course on film and writing for the Summer Institute/Honors Scholars program at Grinnell. An active participant in several Faculty Humanities Seminars, Claire is particularly interested in literature, art history, film, and cultural studies, but she also loves the opportunity her work in the Writing Lab gives her to discuss topics from across the disciplines and to learn something new everyday. The best thing about this career is that it allows Claire to express her love of language by teaching grammar, syntax and style on a daily basis. Outside of work, Claire's three children and many interests -
racquetball, reading, cooking, sewing, soccer and internationa travel-keep her very busy.
 | Janet earned a bachelor's degree in sociology and psychology and a master's degree in counselor education. She is a certified Teacher of English as a Second Language. Prior to joining the staff of the Writing Lab in 1998, she worked as a grant writer and resource developer for thirteen years. She also represented Grinnell and environs in the Iowa General Assembly for six years. And before that, (yes, she is old), she was Associate Dean of Students at the College. She has published professional articles, opinion pieces and children's literature. For fun, she likes to play racquetball, make quilts and eat. When she has too much fun eating, she plays more racquetball. |
| Kevin grew up in the now largely vanished auto belt of central Indiana; he holds a BA in History from the College of William and Mary and an MA in American History from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He has taught in the Grinnell College Writing Lab for over 30 years and he long ago passed the point in life at which books became easier to buy than read. | |
