The Rosenfield Grinnell Scholarship was established in 1987 by Joseph F. Rosenfield, Grinnell College Class of 1925,
to provide scholarships for Des Moines area students to attend Grinnell.
To be eligible for consideration for the Rosenfield Grinnell Scholarship, a student must be currently enrolled as a senior
at one of the following high schools:
- Dowling High School
- East High School
- Hoover High School
- Lincoln High School
- North High School
- Roosevelt High School
- Urbandale High School
- Valley High School
The Rosenfield Scholar chosen from each school will receive a $10,000 scholarship per year ($40,000 total).
To apply for the scholarship, the applicant must complete the application for admission to Grinnell by the published deadline for Early Decision I,
November 15; Early Decision II, January 2; or Regular Admission, January 2. In addition, the Application for Financial Aid and Scholarships,
part of the standard application for admission, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed by February 1.
The Bowen Scholarship was established in 1987 to honor Dr. Howard R. Bowen, president of Grinnell College from 1955 to 1964. The Bowen Scholarship competition is open to all Iowa high school seniors who are United States citizens and wish to attend Grinnell College. Applications are available here: Boweną10.pdf, through the Office of Admission or any Iowa high school guidance office. Applications must have a postmark deadline of December 4.
Recipients are selected on the basis of a scholarship examination and an on-campus interview. The examination follows an essay format covering a broad range of topics in the arts and sciences prepared by Grinnell professors.
Each year, based on the examination results, 15 students are designated semi-finalists and invited to campus for an interview. Five winners are selected and awarded a $25,000 Howard R. Bowen Scholarship per year ($100,000 total). Bowen Scholars receiving grant, loan, or
employment assistance in addition to the Bowen Scholarship, must complete Grinnell's regular application process each year by our published deadline.
Awarded for outstanding academic achievements, the Trustee Honor Scholarship is merit assistance and does not have to be repaid. It is renewable (at the initial amount) for three additional years provided a cumulative GPA of 2.75 is maintained. If you are receiving grant, loan, or employment assistance in addition to the Trustee Honor Scholarship indicated on your award notification, you must complete Grinnell's regular application process by our published deadline each year. Once you have paid your deposit, a special certificate for the Trustee Honor Scholarship will be sent to your high school principal for presentation at graduation or honor ceremonies.
The J.B. Grinnell Scholarship was established in 1983 to recognize local high school graduates who enroll at Grinnell College.
To be eligible for consideration for the J.B. Grinnell Scholarship, a student must currently be enrolled as a senior at a high school in Central Iowa. Preference is given to students enrolled in the Grinnell-Newburg system.
A maximum of two scholarships will be awarded each year. Awards are renewable for three additional years by completing the College's standard procedures for application for financial aid. The J.B. Grinnell recipient will receive up to a maximum of half tuition if he or she demonstrates financial need. A recipient who shows no financial need will be awarded up to a maximum of $5,000.

As a collegiate partner, Grinnell matches noncorporate, local chapter Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America awards up to $500 the first year only.
Awarded to National Merit finalists who list Grinnell as their first-choice on the National Merit Corporation's application, this $2,000 award is renewable for three additional years.
