Political activism is an ever-present theme at Grinnell. I appreciate this prominent aspect of campus life since it allows me to stay up-to-date with real world campaigns as well as on campus developments.
Advertisements for political happenings on campus are posted everywhere, so you can't miss who is running for a Student Government Association (SGA) position or what the new student initiative is. And the phrase "student initiative" is key ... students at Grinnell take the initiative to get involved and improve or change things that they already love about campus life. On campus activism is part of what makes Grinnell students Grinnellians.
In addition to political activism in relation to campus activities, Grinnell students energetically promote student activism in political campaigning outside of the college. Prior to Election Day, there were three on campus voting opportunities for students to cast their vote for the presidential election. Students most engaged in the voting process further publicized voting opportunities by handing out fliers, decorating the sidewalk with chalk and writing the location and times all over campus. All aspects of activism are very much supported by students at the college, and it is incredibly easy to be an active participant in Grinnell's political community and outside political happenings as a student at Grinnell College.
