Where are you from originally and what do you like most about living in Grinnell?

I was born in southern Illinois, but lived in Iowa from the third grade through my college years at Grinnell. In 1974 my husband’s job took us to New Jersey where we raised 4 children, 3 of whom are Grinnell College alumni. During 21 years of that time I was the east coast and international admission officer for the College.

In 2007, having never been Grinnell townies, my husband and I found a great retirement property just outside of Grinnell, and after 33 years in New Jersey, we moved back to Iowa. Living in Grinnell offers us a chance to get back to our Midwestern roots and Grinnell, the town, offers a laid back lifestyle in a pretty cool community. A big plus is that the college offers an extraordinary array of free events to townfolk.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I really enjoy spending time with friends and family. I've tried retiring about half a dozen times, but I keep getting called back into service. I look at free time pretty much in the future tense.

What do you like most about Grinnell students?

I have spent nearly a quarter century in Admission helping great students find Grinnell and then watching them them discover interesting things about themselves during their Grinnell years. Most have been unique in some way in their interests and talents. The Grinnell students I have known have believed they could make a difference in the world and many of the have!
