What is the best thing about Grinnell? The sense of community is my favorite thing about Grinnell. This closeness has allowed me to develop countless meaningful relationships. This intimate, nurturing community has helped me grow tremendously as an individual. Additionally, the Center for Off-Campus Study deserves mention. They made it possible for me to spend all of my junior year abroad doing two different programs while still being able to graduate in four years!

What is the worst thing about Grinnell? There is too much to do. It sounds weird to say about a college in Iowa, but it’s true. The academics coupled with extracurriculars and the events around campus make time management vital.

Why did you choose Grinnell? Honestly, I got this feeling during my visit that Grinnell was the right college. I remember turning to my mom at the end of the tour and saying “This is it.” I went home that night and started on my early decision application. The financial aid was the cherry on top.

What was the most memorable part of your campus visit? Well, my mom really liked the square plates in the dining hall, she just thought that they were so cool. Haha. For me, it was sitting in on a macroeconomics course and seeing how a course that is often taught in a very dry lecture style was instead very fluid and lively. The informal fun atmosphere felt very cozy to me and I knew that I would learn best in this type of academic environment.

What is your favorite Grinnell memory? One of my favorite Grinnell memories did not actually occur at Grinnell. Rather, during my year off campus I was constantly traveling and exploring new places and in almost every instance I was doing it with a Grinnellian. Whether I was crashing on the couch of some alum I knew or meeting up with another Grinnellian in some foreign city, there was always a Grinnell connection. Knowing that leaving the "physical Grinnell" didn't mean that I actually left Grinnell is one of my favorite memories from this past year.
