What is the best thing about Grinnell? The Grinnell experience is built off of student empowerment that can be seen across the College. The individually-advised curriculum allows students to take classes they are genuinely interested in (NO GEN EDS!). Self-governance creates a campus environment where all students are treated as responsible adults. Most importantly, the administration listens to the voices of the students (President Kington has weekly office hours). But remember, as Peter Parker famously said, "With great power, comes great responsibility."
What is the worst thing about Grinnell? The Grinnell bubble can distort a student's perception of reality. Grinnell fosters a unique four-year experience for students. However, the accommodations provided to enrich the academic environment are true luxuries. Take advantage of the many great resources Grinnell offers, but understand not every person in the world has such fortunate opportunity.
Why did you choose Grinnell? Grinnell has world-class academics, state-of-the-art facilities, and the resources to make college affordable for anyone. These attributes were immediate selling points. However, if I didn't feel comfortable on campus when I visited I would never have chosen Grinnell. The students, staff and faculty that I met on my visit immediately treated me like a member of the Grinnell family.
What is your favorite Grinnell memory? I could talk for hours on end regarding memories I've made at Grinnell. To pinpoint my favorite memory would be nearly impossible and, not to mention, an injustice to all other memories of Grinnell. Nonetheless, twenty years from now when I reflect back on my time at Grinnell, I will always remember the moments I spent with my friends hanging out on the loggia, standing around a grill, and our embodiment of GC Pride. LETS GO!
