5 Iowa students granted Bowen scholarships
Grinnell College has announced the winners of the Howard R. Bowen Scholarships for incoming students from Iowa.
Five recipients are selected annually on the basis of a scholarship examination and an on-campus interview. Bowen Scholars receive $70,000, up to full tuition over four years, depending on financial need.
The five Bowen Scholars entering the College this fall include:
- Jon Davis of Spencer, son of Monica Peterson and Gregory Davis. While a student at Spencer High School, Jon participated in band and theater, was an All State Choir participant, and received honorable mention to the All State Speech.
- Kayla Koether of McGregor, daughter of Gregory and Kathleen Koether. While a student at MFL-MAR-MAC High School, Kayla participated in 4-H, FFA, band, and theater. She also edited the school newspaper and was a state speech participant.
- Joe Maloney of Cedar Rapids, son of Shawn and Jenifer Steil. While a student at Xavier High School, Joe participated in National Honor Society, football, show choir, and the Linn County Peer Review Board. He was also the captain of the debate team.
- Andrew Marcum of Blockton, son of Scott and Deborah Marcum. While a student at Bedford Community High School, Andrew participated in drama, quiz bowl, choir, and band. He was also a three time All State Speech participant.
- Jayme Wiebold of Cedar Rapids, daughter of Ross and Julie Wiebold. While a student at Xavier High School, Jayme participated in National Honor Society, basketball and key club. She was also an All Conference softball player.
