The legacy of a lifetime of philanthropy supporting Grinnell is the College's perpetuation as philanthropy is demonstrated to graduating Grinnellians. Graduates eventually assume the leadership of the institution while safeguarding Grinnell in the intervening years. The annual class gift honors Grinnell College and the College's future. Until the fiftieth year, the annual class gift invests in the College through annual support of the Pioneer Fund. For alumni, the Pioneer Fund represents the long-standing tradition of broad support of the College's mission, the students, faculty, programs, and the commitment to need-blind admission. As such, unrestricted Pioneer Fund gifts will be represented alongside the fiftieth year programs. The class of 1956 requested an opportunity to directly share their legacy and so initiated the Senior Opportunity Scholarship.
The fiftieth reunion class gift includes:
Pioneer Fund unrestricted gifts
Senior Opportunity Scholarship. The annually funded scholarship honors selected Seniors at the completion of their degrees by buying down loans so they enter the next phase of their lives with a more reasonable burden of debt. As the funds are awarded to graduating Seniors, the gifts reward successful completion of their education for a select group of graduates. The College is committed to reducing the financial burden of students' time at Grinnell by directing resources to enhance their financial pictures for their futures.
Capital Gifts - Outright and pledged capital gifts will be counted in the fiftieth year legacy if finalized in the reunion year.
Planned Gifts
a. Realized bequests received the College during the reunion year
b. Life income gifts established and credited at face value
c. Irrevocable deferred gifts credited at face value

Commencement 2007 is Monday, May 21. Please plan on attending!
The commencement Honorary Marshall comes from the fiftieth reunion class year and is selected by the student group, the Commencement Committee.
Commencement Rehearsal:
Members of the fiftieth class are encouraged to attend commencement rehearsal and hand out the brass rings that are part of that occasion. The brass rings are reminders of their experience with the Medallion Ceremony the night before classes begin their first year. It is a reminder of the legacy they enjoy and will contribute to as they reach out and take the brass ring.
Asa Turner was a true Pioneer - he focused his endless energy and sharp intellect on building a foundation for education in the Iowa Territory. In 1846, he and the Iowa Band laid the foundation for what we now know as Grinnell College. Generations of students have found their lives forever changed because of the legacy Asa Turner left for them. You too can join Turner and the thousands of Grinnellians who have followed him by making an impact on your Legacy Class of 2007, and the class of 2057, and the class of 2107.....
Find out how you can qualify to become a member of Asa Turner Associates at Planned Giving.
As you move through your 50th Reunion experience, we are here to help you plan reunion, connect with friends, and teach young Grinnellians the impact their lives will likely have on their legacies, the class of 2057.
