As an outstanding dentist and a dedicated volunteer to many causes, this alumna is responsible for more than a few bright smiles.
This alumna earned her degree in dentistry from Northwestern University after graduating from Grinnell and practiced in Minneapolis and at the Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois before settling in Honolulu for her own private practice. As only the third woman dentist in Hawaii, she made her mark in a field where few females practiced.
She retired from practice in 1989, but she has stayed busy as a volunteer for many causes. She's served as president of the Maunalani Park Improvement Association, and has volunteered for the Hawaii Cancer Society, the Hawaii Conservation Council, and the Hawaii Heart Association. Her work has earned the Outstanding Aloha Spirit Award from the Hawaii Visitors Bureau She has also been a committed Grinnell volunteer, serving as the area coordinator for regional alumni events and co-hosting several events.
For her trailblazing work in dentistry and her commitment to building a better, healthier community, we are pleased to recognize Norma Tong Dang '53.
