Purpose: Alumni offer internship opportunities at their companies or organizations for students to gain practical work experience in a chosen career field.
Process: Alumni submit an internship description to the CDO describing the actual job responsibilities, skills desired, and specific projects. Opportunities are advertised to students, who then apply to the sites. Many alumni provide direct supervision and mentoring for the intern, and others simply make arrangements for the intern to work directly with other professionals at the worksite. Internships take place in the United States and abroad during the summer for a minimum of eight weeks of full-time work. Academic year internships are unpaid, credit-bearing experiences located in or near Grinnell during either academic semester for two full days a week, 12 weeks.
Cost: Summer internships may be funded through alumni donation, by the site, or through a Grinnell College-sponsored competitive grant.
