The Grinnell College baseball team dropped a twin bill to the University of Chicago Tuesday by scores of 11-2 and 5-0 at Winter Haven, Fla.
In the opener, Chicago scored five runs in the first inning before the Pioneers tallied twice in the fourth. In that inning, Mike Nodzenski ’12 had a one-out single to left and moved to third on a single to left by Matt Skelly ’12. Nodzenski later scored on an error and Kainoa Inafuku ’14 plated another run with a single.
Chicago came back with five runs in the sixth and another in the seventh. Andrew Myers ’12 was the pitcher of record for Grinnell, giving up three earned runs in five innings.
In the nightcap, Chicago’s Alex Terry fired a two-hitter and got help offensively with a three-run first inning and two-run sixth.
Grinnell’s lone hits were singles by Skelly and Inafuku.
Chicago is now 4-1, while Grinnell fell to 2-9.
