Graduated from Rockford IL Auburn High School (Gifted Academy); Was four-year Varsity baseball starter earning team awards including: Rookie of Year, "Wear It (most HBP)", twice Pitcher of the Year, and MVP his senior year. Named Northern Illinois Conference (NIC10) All Conference Pitcher while leading Auburn to its first Regional baseball title in 22 years - pitched 16 consecutive scoreless innings in playoff competition. Also lettered in varsity basketball. After graduation, led Freeport IL American Legion baseball team with batting average of .633 in Summer 2008 season. Academically, was Illinois State Scholar and AP Scholar.
