Grinnell College left guard Chris Jarmon ’12 (left) and safety Drew Blumberg ’13 (right) have been named to the District 8 NCAA Division III Academic All-District football first team.

The award is presented by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). By being named to the first team, Jarmon and Blumberg are eligible for Academic All-America honors.

Grinnell College’s football team caught fire in the final period of Saturday’s season finale, but it was too little too late as Carroll University came away with a 31-21 victory at Rosenbloom Field.

Carroll jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first period, added 17 more points in the second frame for a 24-0 halftime lead and was up 31-0 after three quarters.

Already owner of the Grinnell College career record for touchdown receptions, Robert Seer ’12 (pictured) etched his name in the record book in two more categories Saturday during the Pioneers’ 48-16 loss to Illinois College at Jacksonville, Ill.

Seer increased his career total for receptions to 223, breaking the mark of 219 held by Richard Wemer who played from 1995-98. Also, Seer boosted his career receiving yardage total to 3,144...

Mike McCabe ’13 (pictured) passed for the second-most yards in school history while nearly leading the Grinnell College football team to its first victory over St. Norbert College since 1998.

But in the end, the visiting Green Knights held on for a 30-28 Midwest Conference victory at Rosenbloom Field.

Grinnell College’s Brian Taylor ’13 has been named the Midwest Conference Football Defensive Performer of the Week.

Taylor, a 6-2, 230-pound defensive end from Andover, Kan. (Independent), recorded 3.5 sacks, just a half-sack shy of the Grinnell school record, in the Pioneers’ 17-15 victory over Lawrence University on Saturday.
